Apple Stores Worldwide See Crowds, but Walk-In Inventory of iPhone Duo Remains Scarce

Lines formed at retail locations globally as Apple's first foldable iPhone went on sale, though the company's warning about limited stock proved accurate.

Customers gathered at Apple Store locations worldwide on Friday, October 23, for the debut of the iPhone Duo. The company's first foldable iPhone was made available for purchase, prompting crowds to form outside stores overnight as shoppers sought walk-in availability. Apple had previously issued a warning regarding inventory levels at its retail locations, and the situation on the ground has reflected that caution.

Despite the long queues, Apple Store employees have been informing disappointed shoppers that walk-in stock is limited. Those unable to purchase a device in person have been directed to check the Apple Store app at 10 a.m. ET on Saturday, October 24, for details regarding in-store inventory. Apple declined to comment on specific stock levels.

The launch is being marked by senior executives at flagship locations. Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing, is present at the Fifth Avenue store in New York City, accompanied by Vanessa Trigub, who oversees retail operations. Apple CEO John Ternus is attending the launch in Austin, Texas, at the Domain NORTHSIDE location alongside retail chief Deirdre O'Brien. Ternus toured Apple's offices in Austin earlier this week.

Retail personnel have been offering hands-on demonstrations and personalized shopping support to customers inside the stores. Apple has released images from launch events around the world to accompany the release of the device. The situation in Austin is further heightened by the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix taking place in the city this weekend, where Apple serves as the exclusive F1 streamer in the United States.

Inventory availability remains the primary concern for those hoping to purchase the device immediately. While lines formed overnight, the distribution of stock has been constrained. Prospective buyers are advised to utilize the Apple Store app tomorrow morning to determine if units are available for in-store pickup.
